We are pleased to be embarking on new manufacturing process research following the award of a programme grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). We will investigate new routes to realise on-demand high-fidelity facial prostheses for patients who have experienced soft tissue loss in the maxillofacial region, such as that resulting from cancer treatment or traumatic injury. We will work with academic collaborators across the UK spanning colour science, imaging, materials development, manufacturing technology, and clinical practice.

Leeds will particularly contribute to the research of hybrid additive manufacturing (AM) processes for manufacturing medical silicone components with micron-level modelling of skin surface colour and texture, led by Professor Russell Harris and Dr Ehab Saleh.

We look forward to contributing to such a valuable development and the benefits to patients in the UK and globally.
